Joseph Heller এর Catch-22 বইটি পড়েনি এমন কাউকে খুঁজে পাওয়া মুশকিল | তবে অনেকেরই মনে হয় এই উপন্যাস অবলম্বনে Mike Nichols এর তৈরি করা সিনেমাটি দেখা হয়নি |

এই সিনেমায় অনেকগুলো মজার দৃশ্য আছে | এখানে আমি আমার সবচেয়ে পছন্দের তিনটি দৃশ্য যুক্ত করেছি|


সবার প্রথমে যে দৃশ্যটির ভিডিও দিয়েছি, তার ট্র্যান্সক্রিপ্ট টা নিচে পাবেন | নেট সংযোগের কারণে ভিডিওটি না দেখতে পেলে দুধের স্বাদ অন্তঃত ঘোল দিয়ে মেটাতে পারবেন |

প্রথম দৃশ্যটি ধারণ করা হয়েছে একটি পতিতালয়ে | তরুণ আমেরিকান এক যোদ্ধা(Nately) পতিতালয়ের মালিকের(The Old Man) সাথে বিভিন্ন বিষয় নিয়ে আলোচনা করছে | এই তরুণ আমেরিকান প্রেমে পড়েছে এক পতিতার, যাকে সে ২য় বিশ্বযুদ্ধ শেষ হবার সাথে সাথে আমেরিকা নিয়ে যাবার এবং তাকে বিয়ে করার কথা দিয়েছে |

The Old Man : You all crazy!
Nately : Why are we crazy?


The Old Man : Because you don't know how to stay alive and that's the secret of life.
Nately : But we have a war to win.

The Old Man : But America will lose the war. Italy will win it.

Nately : America's the strongest nation on earth.

The American fighting man is the best trained, the best equipped, the best fed...

Italy, on the other hand, is one of the weakest nations on earth and the ltalian fighting man is hardly equipped at all.

The Old Man : That's why my country is doing so well while yours is doing so poorly.

Nately : silly! First ltaly was occupied by Germans and now by us. You call that doing well?

The Old Man : Of course I do. The Germans are being driven out and we are still here. In a few years, you'll be gone and we'll still be here.

Italy is a very poor, weak country yet that is what makes us so strong, strong enough to survive this war and still be in existence long after your country has been destroyed.

Nately : What are you talking about? America's not going to be destroyed.

The Old Man : Never?
Nately : Well...

The Old Man : Rome was destroyed.
Greece was destroyed.
Persia was destroyed.
Spain was destroyed.
All great countries are destroyed.
Why not yours? How much longer do you think your country will last?
Forever?

Nately : Forever is a long time, I guess.
The Old Man : Very long.

Nately : Please, we're talking.
Nately’s girlfriend : We go to bed now?

Nately : Would you go put some clothes on? You're practically naked. (talking to his girlfriend)
I wish she wouldn't walk around like that. (talking to the old man)

The Old Man : It is her business to walk around like that.
Nately : But it's not nice.
The Old Man : Of course it's nice. She's nice to look at.
Nately : This life is not nice. I don't want her to do this.

Nately’s girlfriend: When we go to America, Nately?

The Old Man : You will take her to America? Away from a healthy, active life? Away from good business opportunities? Away from her friends?

Nately : Don't you have any principles?
The Old Man : Of course not.

Nately : No morality?

The Old Man : I'm a very moral man. And ltaly is a very moral country. That's why we will certainly come out on top again if we succeed in being defeated.

Nately : You talk like a madman.

The Old Man : But I live like a sane one.
I was a Fascist when Mussolini was on top.
Now that he has been deposed, I am anti-Fascist.
When the Germans were here, I was fanatically pro-German.
Now I'm fanatically pro-America!
You'll find no more loyal partisan in all of ltaly than myself.



Nately : You're a shameful opportunist! It's better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.

The Old Man : You have it backwards.
It's better to live on your feet than to die on your knees. I know.

Nately : How do you know?
The Old Man : Because I am 107 years old. How old are you?
Nately : I'll be 20 in January.
The Old Man : If you live.

সবচেয়ে মজার দৃশ্য হচ্ছে এটি । এটা না দেখলে কোনভাবেই শব্দ দিয়ে বর্ণনা করা যাবে না ।
