Couple of months before India and Pakistan imposed Anti-Dumping tariff on Jute and Chemical (Hydrogen Peroxide). Although, The Chairperson of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), A T M Mortuza Reza Choudhury told “this tariff imposed did not adopt any concrete information. Exporters need to expose the real information and this change do not affect the whole Export”. They revealed an excuse of hampering their indigenous producer’s sake. Like Pakistan and India, we need to rethink about our Sugar industry. It is one of the major industry in Bangladesh and the product of Bangladeshi sugar still has appealing to its country people not because of its origin but because of its taste. But it is true that the sugar industry is one of the loss sector of Bangladesh Government. Dumping of this sector is a major cause of dying Sugar industry. At present, Cultivating sugar-cane is lower benefit than producing paddy, potato and others. Yes, this thing cannot be happened anymore. We need to address this anomaly.
We cannot make a ban of importing sugar of this type of Free Trade Organization era but may impose anti-damping tariff on this sector. According to Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), the price of Imported Sugar is Taka 44 where Bangladeshi Sugar is trading at Taka 48 on January 21, 2016. But the real scenario is much more different as it happens always in Bangladesh. In spite of all the ill doings, Prime Minister of Government Republic of Bangladesh, Shekh Hasina, is highly determined to eradicate all of the trade issues with its neighbor countries.
