The 91st birth anniversary of the Commander-in-Chief of the country’s Liberation War Bangabir General Mohammad Ataul Gani Osmani was observed yesterday across the country with due respect.
Different organisations in the capital and across Sylhet chalked out programmes in observance of his birth anniversary.
Bangabir Osmani Smriti Parishad held a discussion on ‘National Unity is Today’s Expectation’ and iftar mahfil to mark the day at Osmani Memorial Auditorioum in the capital.
Member Secretary of the Parishad Advocate Sheikh Akhtarul Islam delivered a keynote paper at the discussion while Social Welfare Minister Enamul Haq Mostafa Shaheed, President of Gonoforum Dr Kamal Hossain, former minister Dewan Farid Gazi MP, former state minister Ebdur Rahman Chowdhury, Syed Abdul Muktadir, among others participated in the discussion.
Speakers discussed different aspects of the eventful life and contributions of Bangabir MAG Osmani who had successfully led the country's freedom fighters against the strong Pakistani occupation forces in the liberation war of 1971.
The leaders of the Parishad also offered fateha at his grave in Sylhet Shahjalal shrine in the morning and placed wreaths.
Jatiya Janata Party also organised a discussion on the life and contribution of Bangabir MAG Osmani at its office in the city.
Meanwhile, President of Sylhet Division development Action Council Advocate Abed Raza and General Secretary Nazmul Islam Naj in a joint statement called upon the Government to observe the birth and death anniversary of Bangabir MAG Osmani officially.
They said that Bangabir Osmani led the liberation war in armed struggle to liberate the country from occupied army. So we should honour him properly, they added.
Sylhet Division development Students Action Council organised a meeting at TSC of Dhaka University to the mark day.
Leaders of the organisation called upon the government to establish halls after Bangabir MAG Osmani in Dhaka University, Shahjalal Science & Technology University and Sylhet Agriculture University in reorganisation of his contributions to the liberation war.
