Speakers at a human chain yesterday called upon the government to take immediate initiatives to stop the traffic jam in the city to decrease nervousness of the people.
They also called to control private vehicle in the streets saying the private vehicle is the main reason for creating traffic jam in the capital.
Save the Environment Movement, Citizens Rights Movement Nirapad Development Foundation and Work for a Better Bangladesh (WBB) Trust jointly organised the human chain programme in front of BSMMU demanding immediate initiatives to stop the traffic jam in the city.
Presided over by Chairman of Save the Environment Movement Abu Naser Khan, the human chain was conducted by President of Nirapad Development Foundation Ibnul Said Rana.
General Secretary of Citizens Rights Movement Tushar Rehman, Programme Manager of WBB Trust Syed Mahbubul Alam, vehicle expert Maruf Rahman, Chairman of Swabhumi Advocate Mojammel Hossain, President of Nagarbasi Hazi Ansar Ali, falk song king Abdul Kuddus Bayati, among others took part at the progarmme.
Abu Naser Khan said that after starting the ‘Operation Clean Street’ to control traffic jam, the public nervousness in the capital has increased because this initiative is not a proper way to control the jam. The number of private vehicle in the capital is increasing day by and the vehicle is responsible for creating the jam mainly, he added.
He demanded stopping of ‘Operation Clean Street’ in the interest of continuing public vehicle.
The speakers said that if the government fails to control private car in the capital, it will be uninhabitable city for the citizens of the country within short time.
