As victim blaming again rises to a peak, internet blames "it's her choice" i.e the freedom of choice for women to be the ultimate antagonist in the recent incidents. Luckily there was rich guy involved, so the internet hates him too.
Well back in the old days, women were told that they will find their heaven indoors maintaining the social norms. And now they got shoved a new definition down their throat that says they must not to obey any societal norms if they want to be empowered. Yes, now they may feel empowered. But in my opinion, the context remains the exactly the same. Earlier, it was simply a sin to ask a question. And now, it is much complex than that. If a women ask questions about her position in context of freedom of choice, she will be labelled as right-wing, conservative, orthodox, traditionalistic within a moment. And this situation ultimately results in not raising the question... just like the old days.
This is how patriarchy works. It worked before, it works just fine these days as well. This is how patriarchy manipulates. It may have changed the game plan, but the game is still the same. So before mocking the whole "it’s her choice" and all.... ask yourself once... "was it really her choice?"
And my to fellow women, do ask yourself twice if the decision you've taken was actually yours or not. Well, as a male, I can assure you.. patriarchy will manipulate you... one way or another.
